Jessie J (Jessica Ellen Cornish) is a new phenomenon in the pop world and an idol to many, she has been compared to Katy Perry and Lady Gaga whilst donning her own unique grimey street yet beautifully emotional style, Dita Von tease burlesquey dress sense and bold hair statement.
She got to number 2 with 'do it like a dude' and in the album chart, her album was also pushed forward a few months due to consumer demand and her other single 'price tag' reached the number 1 spot.
Her album is possibly one of the best albums for the amount of great songs I have heard in a really long time. It is a fantastic mix of stunning ballads, attitude filled rnb rhythms, catchy pop toe tappers and classy jazz style big band tunes as well as awe inspiring live performances that send shivers down your spine.
Her music is powerful and full of soul - some of her soaring high notes can give Mariah Carey a run for her money. Her lyrics are brilliant, catchy and emotional and I love her grimey attitude that she brings to the mic. She is a feisty funky independent woman and I really like that about her, she doesn't take any rubbish from anyone. She is a breath of fresh air with her unique 'warbling' similar to Miss Aguileras ever lasting notes and her scat style beats. Even though she is a little 'street' I find her utterly endearing and intriguing and in live interviews she seems like a genuine nice person.
She doesn't take herself too seriously which is compelling - you can tell this from her videos, she seems comfortable in her own skin and funny. I like her edgy-ness she is something new and I don't think there is any other artist out there like her. Her voice can hit all the scales with no trouble and she is a very flexible artist giving brilliant performances in many different genres, I think there is something for everyone when Jessie J is concerned (even my mum likes her) and even if you are not a fan of her music she is very easy on the eye.
I am a little obsessed with her music atm and clearly the feeling is mutual with her fans or the 'heartbeats' as she calls them! Everywhere you go her songs are played, today on the bus price tag was blaring out of a phone and in most high-street shops I would be surprised if you didn't hear some of the famous warbling's by the J'ster. It isn't surprising when Graham Norton told his audience her tour sold out in 3 hours, prior to her entrance on set...
After a little research I have found that she actually wrote songs for Miley Cyrus (another young lady I admire) so my infatuation for Miss J has grown even more.
My favourite songs are:
'Price tag' for its catchy Chaching chingy bling blingy.
'Mamma knows best' is brilliant to dance around to giving it that female sassiness we all behold, grab a feather boa for the best effect!
'Who's laughing now' is one of those great inspirational songs and funky too.
'L.O.V.E' is her version of a love song with a contemporary twist.
'Who you are' is just amazingly exquisite. Enough said.
'Do it like a dude' is great for pretending you are hard and ghetto....
I love her, she can really sing, I find myself listening to her all the time and I'm proud to share the same name. <3
